Ways to Make Your Home Healthier and Happier During the Pandemic

The pandemic has kept many people home more than they’ve ever been. It may have caused you to think about everything you need to do to make your home a more comfortable space. Fortunately, in some cases, you can make your own modifications to your home, even if you’re on a budget, although it could benefit you to hire a professional for some projects. Here are some tips and resources to help you along, courtesy of the George Woods Home Selling Team.

Create a Yoga or Exercise Room

You should get regular exercise all year round, no matter the weather. The Mayo Clinic recommends getting at least 150 minutes of physical activity each week. Exercise helps you stay healthy, which includes boosting your immune system.

When you don’t have a designated space to exercise, you may not prioritize physical activity indoors. However, you can select a portion of your basement or a spare room and turn it into a space specifically for exercise.

If you’re creating a yoga room, paint the walls a light, possibly pastel, color to make it a calming space. Don’t use dimming curtains or sheers. A yoga room should have some natural light shining through but not enough to distract you.

No matter the type of room, consider hiring a painter to make life easier.

Consider Getting a UV Light for Your HVAC System

Hire an HVAC company to install ultraviolet (UV) lights in your system. Hospitals use these lights to keep the air clean. UV lights can kill bacteria, viruses, dust mites and dust mite eggs, and mold and other fungi.

Not only will you benefit from fewer germs in the air, but if a family member has an allergy to mold or dust, it could benefit them as well.

Plant a Garden

Plant a garden to enjoy homegrown vegetables all year round. During the growing season, you can prepare them right off the vine. Grow enough that you have extra so you can enjoy homegrown vegetables during the cold winters.

On the other hand, you could plant a flower garden to increase the aesthetic appeal of your landscape, encourage you to get out in nature more, provide you with a place to exercise, and help you escape and destress.

Consider Making Upgrades to Your Kitchen

Official stay-at-home orders caused people to reevaluate the interior design of their homes. Some probably learned to appreciate how much their current space offers, while others had time to pinpoint every aspect that needed work.

If you feel your kitchen needs improvement, think about making upgrades now, such as replacing the cabinetry. Cooking with your family might have made you realize that you lack counter space. You could add more counters or an island.

Upgrade Your Entertainment System

If you’re going to be stuck at home, you might as well upgrade that home theater system, as well! You could also add a bigger TV and a comfortable chair to your arrangement. These days, there are countless streaming services to choose from, too, so you’ll have plenty to watch as you wait for the world to return to normal. Perhaps now would be a good time to catch up on documentaries and learn a new skill while you’re at it!

If you’ve discovered you’re unhappy with your current living space, take steps to make it a healthier, happier one.
